What can go wrong, and how badly

Every book here can lose money, some months and some years. This page says how much, how often, and what the numbers cannot tell you.

In short

What this is not

✕ No leverage ✕ No derivatives ✕ No intraday ✕ No margin ✕ No tips ✕ No daily alerts

Delivery equity and ETFs, bought with your own money, held in your own demat. Nobody messages you at 9:20 am. You can lose what you put in, never more — there is no margin call. The drawdown column below is the deepest fall inside each book's backtest, and those were largely rising years: the crashes of 2008 and 2020 went deeper, and small caps fell furthest. It is not an income either: nothing is paid out each month, and every gain it books is taxed in the year it is booked. In its backtest SmallMicro 500 once spent 16 months below a previous high, and after a crash small caps have taken years to recover — money you will need within the next few years does not belong here. How far each book has fallen in its backtest

MultiAssetDeepest fall -13.5% · losing months 10 of 44 · longest below a previous high 5 months
LargeMidcap 250Deepest fall -23.1% · losing months 19 of 61 · longest below a previous high 16 months
SmallMicro 500Deepest fall -24.2% · losing months 14 of 61 · longest below a previous high 16 months

Backtest, before tax. The deepest fall is measured on each book’s own backtest curve; the windows differ by book and none of them held a crash like 2008’s or 2020’s.

How much of your money this is supposed to be

MultiAsset is built as a core, LargeMidcap 250 as a core-plus and SmallMicro 500 as a satellite — the book to size smallest. The homepage has a calculator that turns each book’s deepest backtested fall into rupees at the share of your money you choose. Work out the fall in rupees

A real crash can cost more than that calculator shows, and for longer. How much belongs here is your decision, and a qualified adviser’s.
